Central Alberta Doulas

Christine Cathrall owner/doula of Central Alberta Doulas by Suzanne Taylor Photography
Central Alberta Doulas was founded by my long time and very good friend Christine Catherall from the Red Deer area.  She started the agency back in 2014 in the Central Alberta area to help expecting Mother’s and Father’s (as well as extended and very loving family members) find the support they need to assist them in their first birth – which can be a very intimidating time.  Having one extra person in your corner can sometimes really assist in building more confidence during such a critical time in life.  Child birth is no joke but Central Alberta Doulas really does help to assist you to make the experience as informed and as comfortable as possible.

Who are these Doulas and what do they offer?

The women that make up Central Alberta Doulas are an amazing group of kind, intelligent and nurturing women who can be with you from almost the time of conception.  The team consists of Christine Catherall, Holly Persicke and Chelsea Bootsman and all of them are extremely talented and educated around birth support and helping you along the journey of gestation, birth and post birth support.

Classes Offered

Central Alberta Doulas offers several different services that creates a “one-stop shop” for soon-to-be parents looking for support and other services.  Central Alberta Doulas offers services including Birth Education, Doula Services at several different levels of support (so you can choose the one that is right for you) as well as Placenta Encapsulation.  Suzanne Taylor Photography also works alongside Central Alberta Doulas to create beautiful images from Maternity images all the way to Newborn and Baby Plans so that no moment of your pregnancy and beautiful new life is missed.

Birth Education

Most people who find out for the first time that they are going to be parents have very little education around conception, gestation and birth and often it is recommended for new Moms/Parents to attend a prenatal class or a birth education class.  Christine Catherall offers these classes to help prepare you and your partner for the journey ahead.

Placental Encapsulation

After your birth is complete, your body will expunge your placenta as there is no further need for it in your body (I think that is so neat) and you have the option of preserving your placenta and having it prepared for you to consume.  Some practitioners and cultural customs feel strongly about the benefits of ingesting the iron rich organ after birth to help recover from the birth.  Both Rose and Holly offer this service though the Central Alberta Doulas and Christine would be happy to speak to you about it further if you like.

Should you get a Doula?

To be honest, that is a decision that is completely up to you and every professional that I spoke about in this post would agree with you.  If your not sure about it, why not just contact Christine and ask a few questions?  She is by far one of the most down to earth ladies that I have ever had the privilege of meeting and I know first hand that she is extremely good at her profession.  Christine provided me with post birth support after I had my triplets and she was such a beautiful sight when she came to visit me.  Support, help, someone to just let have a shower and get clean…little things you take for granted until you struggle finding one extra second of the day to meet a very basic personal need was provided by her service.

This group of ladies is extremely special and they are a real service to the Red Deer area.
