Photography Awards

When I became a photographer, I intended to one day be skilled enough to take some half decent pictures of my kids.  That was the only thing that I was going for – no joke.  I just wanted to be able to enjoy taking pictures of my kids and hoped to catch a good shot from time to time.

What evolved over the last eleven years, however, has been the awakening of a passion that I have luckily been able to share with many people who also appreciate and enjoy the art that I create through the medium of photography.  I have been very fortunate to be awarded several titles since I began competing in photography competitions in January of 2015.  I have won photography awards through several different international bodies NAPCP,  International Color Awards, International Spider Awards, International Wedding Awards, Child Photo Competition and Shoot and Share 2016 Photo Contest.  Thousands of photographers enter their images for a chance to be recognized and be ‘someone’ that has something different this very over-saturated industry.

It has taken a LOT of work, time, investment and love to get to where I am currently – and saying that there is so much further for me to go.  I can take a fantastic technical image, a goal and effort that has taken about eight years to be aware of and figure out and perfect for me – but something still lacks and something is bound to give soon.  I want to chart new territory, I want to pioneer, I want to be looked at by my peers and know that I helped influence them in some way with my imagery and skill.

As a photographer, the landscape is not changing.  There are more and more people who are investing a few months pay for “good cameras” and while I would say around 60-80% of those people either give up or make the decision to leave as they are burnt out or cannot find fulfillment.  That still leaves 20-40% of those people your direct competition – maybe not now, but they very well could be in the future.  I don’t say that in the sense that you should cut them out of your life and try to avoid all eye contact – that would be silly…and cold.  I reference those numbers only because you MUST keep practicing and creating so that you can rise above the game and be more than everyone else.  Become a professional, and you will not regret the steps you must walk to get there because it is not an easy walk – grab some hiking boots though and commit.

I never thought when I first picked up a camera as a child with an old roll of film in it that I would be able to one day hang titles on my office wall knowing that I have something.  Something that a handful of judges liked – enough so that they awarded me photography awards I dreamed of a long time ago.
