100 Days of Wonder by Suzanne Taylor Photography
Today I started a brand new Instagram photography account that you can visit by clicking this link: 100 Days of Wonder. Every January, photographers are guilted into joining a ton of personal practice challenges of typically 52 weeks, 100 days or 365 days that are usually themed and are geared towards photographing outside of the box. Now – no one lynch me for suggesting that they guilted me into joining. I was referring to more the self-guilt we feel as photographers in always wanting to be better and thinking that by joining this challenge we will actually document a bit more of the life we have already documented about 95% more than the average person. I hate missing out – connecting – and creating art, so to be honest these are super appealing to me. Its just really hard to commit for a full year – like my New Year’s Resolution to lose the usual 80lbs I want to each January. Har-d-har-har.
Really? More photography?
So what was my response to this desire to join these groups? (Start shaking your head now…) I decided to join three of these photography groups I am already behind in and start my own personal challenge that I created and wish to tackle by myself. Yes – I am a massive glutton for punishment as if that wasn’t clear enough already. Photography is my life as it seems – I never thought of myself as someone who would be self-employed for any period of my life, but this is what I do now and it is a mega fact. I don’t let a day go by without taking a picture, sometimes on my ‘good’ camera, but often just even snapshots on my phone. It is deeply important for me to gift my children’s life to them as much as I can through photos as we grow and mature – as well as age.
That being said, I wanted to create a safe place for my art and an area that encourages me to keep creating. Not my average family session, but the collection of photos I do each month that have nothing to do with the mainstream. These are my personal images and what I consider to be the driving force of how I run all of my commercial sessions that you – my wonderful customer hires me to capture for you. It is like how during fashion week in New York you see couture fashion. This fashion sets the tones for what most of us seek out and can afford to buy. These images are my concepts and the inspiration for the creativity I approach my customer work with.
I invite you to come join me on this journey of creating images that are beyond the beauty of normal. I also invite you to add any ideas for photography ideas of themes you would like to see on my Instagram feed. It will be a pleasure to have you along!
