Senior High School Portraits – Congratulations!!!
In Canada, Senior photography is pretty much unheard of. In fact, 99.5% of seniors (I made that number up but I feel it is justified) just accept that there is no option out there for photography other then what the school photographers muster up. You know – the cap and gown, fake roses (if your a girl) – some books or something like that if your a boy. This is what I was provided with WAAAAAY back in 1999 and you know what – I thought they were pretty awesome – in fact I loved them. They were portraits and they were what Canadian kids look forward to during their 12 years of schooling. Nothing more and nothing less…just those classic images of you finally leaving the school that you have a love hate relationship with. Why don’t Canadian’s celebrate graduating High School though with beautiful images that reflect who they are as individuals and people vs. the carbon copy image that will sit in your year book forever that looks just like everyone else’s image?
The difference between Senior High School Photography in Canada and the United States of America
In the USA, High School Seniors are not doomed to the the cookie cutter image for their year books like we are in Canada. In the USA, if you want to, you can submit an image taken by a professional photographer (and edited – the most important part) and that will be placed inside the year book instead of the your school picture. Brilliant hey? I am jealous and I graduated High School 17 years go and forever I will be remembered by that image – not the one the one in my head that a skilled photographer could have captured at that time.
Be the envy of your friends…talk to Mom and Dad and book a session.
So your a High School Senior this year (or next) and you would like some memories of your senior year that are NOT cookie cutter and that reflect YOU and not LifeTouch’s version of you then you should contact me at suzannetaylorphotography@gmail.com and we should talk. It is hard in our society to be accurately portrayed by anyone when you are a teenager entering adulthood – I remember that time very well…let your social media and society embrace YOU and all of your amazing quantities from a personalized High School Senior photography session. You only graduate grade 12 once…remember it how you see it.
