This session has been on my mind as of late as I have spent the last few months determining the direction I want to go as a child photographer.  Sometimes as a child photographer, you shoot sessions that are unforgettable, and this was one of them.  Suzanne Taylor Photography photographed these beautiful sisters near Red Deer, Alberta all the way back in 2015 and as of late I have been reflecting on these images silently.  The purpose of this photographic session was to be a gift from Mom and Dad to create lasting memories for these two sisters before their new little sister was to be born a few months later.  What a beautiful gift to give to a child from a parent – don’t you think?

The Art of a Child Photographer

This seems like a presumptuous statement, no?  Well – give me a moment to explain that to you so it doesn’t sound quite so fluffy.  I started my journey of photography way back when I was about 3 years old and my mom gave me a little camera (I have no idea who made it) that made 3 inch square prints and had that fancy cube flash bulb on the top of the camera that rotated once it was used (to a maximum of 4 times).  I loved photography even as a child and as an adult, I gravitated towards doing it as more than just a hobby when I started my business in 2007.  I fell into business rather by accident as I had a handful of people who were willing to actually pay me to take their photographs and I thought, ‘why not’.  I worked full time as a Social Worker at that point, so it was a fun escape for me to enjoy some time away from my ‘real job’.

From that point on I started to flourish as a photographer and artist and year by year I became more and more driven to perfect what I felt was Fine Art.  I worked hard to learn how to take a good technical image and once I did it changed everything.  In 2015 I began to enter photography competitions and that was when I found my art very much changed and started to become what people recognize when they see images by Suzanne Taylor Photography.  Since 2015 I have won or placed in over 40 different international competition categories and judged by leading professionals in not only photography but also visual architecture, curators and leaders in visual communications in 2018.

Having my own children certainly helped this area of expertise as well.  I do feel like I have an unfair advantage sometimes as I was blessed with a beautiful son who is now 7.5 and 5.5-year-old Girl/Boy/Girl triplets who are gorgeous and very photogenic.  Practice makes perfect and having beautiful children who are willing to participate when Mom wants to practice is an amazing gift and I have used every moment possible to use their presence to create art that both inspires and records this fleeting moment in their lives.  As a professional child photographer in Red Deer, I have had a wealth of moments spent with not only my children but the children of my customers who have let me play with them, get to know them and in many cases watch them grow.
