Newborn Photography : Lifestyle Session vs. Fine Art Newborn Session | Red Deer

Newborn Photography has come a long way in the last few years.  There was a time (what seems like a very long time ago) when newborn photography was little more than just a quick snap at the hospital the day after your newborn baby was born.  At least that is what my newborn ‘photo’ look’s like.  A single picture of me in my hospital bassinette is the only image I have from my newborn moments after I was born.  Fast forward 30 (some odd) years and in 2018 in Red Deer and all of Alberta photographers that will capture all styles of newborn photography.  Suzanne Taylor Photography specializes in two different styles of newborn photography – Lifestyle Newborn Photography and Fine Art Newborn Photography.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography

Lifestyle Newborn Photography artfully captures your newborn in your family home, surrounded by loved ones and their new surroundings.  This session style is perfect for the family that is spending their first few days together learning about their new baby and getting to know the ins and outs of parenthood – or if she or he is not the firstborn, watching as the other children welcome their new brother or sister into their lives.  It is a wonderful time and one that can be captured artfully while the family is in this time of adjustment.  There are no extra bells and whistles with this session – just Suzanne Taylor Photography and her camera doing what she does best.

The family can expect many different images out of this session, many of which will be unposed and capturing life as it happens at the pace that is perfect for the family.  This is a favourite of many families who like the idea of a relaxed pace with much fewer posing requests.  Your precious newborn will be the start of the show as well with their opportunity to be photographed in the most comfortable part of the home.  The photography focus will be given to the features of your baby as well as the little moments that they smile, coo and even grunt.  Afterwards, the family comes together to be photographed together as well as with different groupings of family members.  All of these perfect moments are recorded for you to view during your private ordering session where you will have the opportunity to order the images that are perfect from your session to suit your needs, home and budget.

Fine Art Newborn Photography

Fine Art Newborn Photography is a step above Lifestyle Newborn Photography and includes posed images of your newborn baby and posed portraits of your family members.  For this session, the Suzanne Taylor Photography portable studio is brought to your home to create images that are classic, timeless and uniquely your newborn.  This portrait style photography session allows your newborn to be photographed as a work of art and as the star of this very precious session.  Time is spent capturing artful poses of your newborn as well as detail images of all the little parts that make your baby perfect.  I focus on details like eyelashes, the tiny hair all of their body and the little wrinkles that adorn their little body.

Even the moments with the family – even casual are captured with depth, more dramatic shadowing (if the proper light is available) and posing that creates images that are strong, artful and impactful to view.  The outcome is pure art to be loved for a lifetime – and beyond.

How To Choose Your Newborn Photography Session

Determining the newborn session that is right for you comes down to what style you are more drawn to.  If you enjoy photos that are more relaxed, fun and warm – Lifestyle Newborn may be the right fit for your family.  If you are drawn to more artful, posed and dramatic imagery – chances are good the Fine Art Newborn Photography session may be the best decision for you.  If you are still sitting on the fence not knowing which direction you want to go in, I always recommend the Fine Art session because I incorporate a little of the Lifestyle in every Fine Art Newborn Session I shoot in Red Deer or Calgary.  I also include a questionnaire in every photography session with Suzanne Taylor Photography.  Through the questionnaire, you will get the opportunity to share your thoughts, desires and general wants for your photography session.  From there we will be able to create the perfect newborn photography session for you and your family.
