This spring I was invited into the workplace of CARA – the Central Alberta Realtors Association to meet and capture the Board of Directors as the influential group that they are for a portrait, as well as to capture the President, Mike Snell’s Real Estate Headshots for the yearly image on their wall. This was a really exciting opportunity for Suzanne Taylor Photography because it was the chance to start moving into more corporate and commercial photography in Red Deer and Calgary, Alberta.
The Real Estate Group Photo
People often wonder how large groups are when you photograph them together in their place of work. Sometimes groups are silly – and sometimes groups are serious. This group was one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to work with to be completely honest. Everyone was eager to get started and in amazing spirits for all of the photographs I took of them that day. Of course, the public only gets to see one picture of the wonderful Board of CARA, but we took a ton of them. The whole group smiled, and we embraced the silly and the serious and ended up with a great image of a very dedicated group of Real Estate Realtors.
Real Estate Headshots in Red Deer, Alberta
The real reason for this blog post though was to share the importance of an updated picture. Suzanne Taylor Photography has been hired more and more the last year to update headshots for business’ and individuals. It is amazing how quickly your headshot can become out of date and when you search on LinkedIn, Facebook or any social media, it becomes apparent how many people take for granted that your headshot is indeed their first introduction to you. Think of a time you met someone first online and saw a picture of them and then saw them in real life and thought “oh…”. It may not be bad, but it may not be exactly what you expected and when you are representing a position of trust – like that of a Real Estate Realtor, your headshot should look like the current you.
I remember a time when I used to drive my supervisor at Children’s Services nuts because I used to dye my hair and cut my hair with reckless abandon. It would change dramatically at least three times a year – nothing out there, but different lengths and colours. I would need a new ID card regularly, and I think she disliked me sometimes for that ;). Headshots are not meant to last forever (though longer than 6 weeks is optimal) and when they no longer represent the real you, it is either time to get new professional Real Estate Headshots taken or change yourself back to the picture that is currently representing you as a realtor in the Red Deer or Calgary area.
A quick Google search for the President of CARA, Mike Snell lead me to this image that was posted on January 2, 2018, in the Red Deer News Now website. Now, I will be the first to say that Mike was a great headshot model who had great features that photographed well, was kind, and struck me as a leader when I met him. Our interaction only lasted about 10 minutes, but during that time I felt that we easily improved significantly on the image that was currently representing him on social media in the Red Deer area. What do you think?
Both images represent Mike Snell, and if hard pressed, either could be used as his likeness – but which image speaks to you more? Which one captures your interest? Which of the two Real Estate Headshots would you want to represent you? Which picture would you trust more?
