This blog post is long overdue. Like months overdue.
Sometimes it takes time, however, to put into words the right thoughts for a photography session like this one. This was a very special session and one that was near and dear to my heart for many reasons, but mostly because the Mom of this beautiful baby is one of my closest friends (which she may laugh at because we don’t see each other much), but I trust her implicitly as though we have known each other for decades. Rosanne is a symbol of strength, femininity and kindness and this session was a testament to her strength, love and wisdom that she exhibits every day.
Welcoming A Rainbow Baby after the Storm…
When you see a baby loved as deeply as this little one is, it warms the soul and makes you feel alive and honoured to share such a special moment with a child and their family during this very special bonding time. There is always the first two weeks – right when the photographer comes that the baby is adjusting to “life on the outside” and the family is also adjusting. I have been there like most of you reading this blog. Parenting doesn’t come with instructions and a baby – no matter how loved, cherished or desired will challenge you in so many ways the first month while you get to learn their cycles, their likes, dislikes and what makes them poop. Poop is so important as a new mom…lol…the world is a better place if your baby has regular BM’s.
Watching a Mother and Child during this time is deeply emotional. I remember spending days on end with my oldest on my chest while I breathed him in (all of my babies smelled like honey for years) and got to know the human that I carried for 9 full months. I see it in all new mothers – both experienced and not, because the act of birthing a child makes you a new mother again to that child. Sure – an experienced Mom doesn’t freak out about the little things anymore…but she must learn all about this new little person and get to know their ins and out as well as what they love and hate.
Siblings and the Rainbow Baby…
This little beauty was so lucky to be born into this amazing family. She has a big brother who will protect her on earth – a second big brother who is with her everywhere she goes in this life and a big sister who adores and cherishes her. This family understands and respects the fragility of life and you can see it in the faces and behaviours of the older kiddos. The way they smile and laugh around their newborn baby sister and how Mom and Dad foster the love for her…the kindness and love are 100% and it is amazing to witness.
How the Rainbow Baby fits for Mom and Dad…
If you are unsure of what a ‘rainbow baby’ refers to, it has been coined as a name for the baby who is born after an unsuccessful pregnancy or loss shortly after birth. The little gray bunny represents that beautiful child is always part of the families images. This little girl represents so much for this family…you can see it in the eyes and faces of everyone who cares for her.
I want to share a very special thanks to Rosanne for allowing me to come into her home and capture this VERY special time for their family.
