Baby Photography in Calgary (also referred to as Newborn Photography) is one of the many portfolios that Suzanne Taylor Photography specializes in. As you may or may not know, I was born and raised in Calgary, and when I had my triplets, I found a whole new reason to gravitate towards the City I grew up in and have always loved. I quickly became involved with the Twin, Triplet and More Association of Calgary. With that club, I found a home and promptly established many amazing friendships that I still hold near and dear to my heart. During that time of getting to know so many beautiful mothers, I also had the opportunity to photograph MANY beautiful sets of newborn twins and triplets. During that time I curated what I felt was the perfect way to document and photograph newborn’s and baby’s (or babies) as my work became more refined and perfected. Suzanne Taylor Photography’s style of newborn and baby photography in Calgary was born sort to speak, and from there my art has grown and matured into what I produce today.
Baby Photography in Calgary & Fine Art
I feel it essential to describe how Baby Photography in Calgary produced by Suzanne Taylor Photography is different than the other baby photography that you can scroll on by when you type “Baby Photography in Calgary” into Google. I have marketed Suzanne Taylor Photography for the last several years as a Fine Art Photographer, but what does that mean really?
According to the dictionary, Fine Art is defined as: “creative art, especially visual art, whose products are to be appreciated primarily or solely for their imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual content.” I remember the day I decided to specialize in Fine Art photography and remember looking that up and feeling that my work fit into that definition in a way that I had been longing for. My work was defined and how I visualize an image – especially baby and newborn photography images. Wanting to create beautiful photos that focused merely on the baby and all of the beauty and wonder that little person (or persons) are. There is no need for busy props, outfits or anything of the sort with Baby Photography in Calgary by Suzanne Taylor Photography. To create compelling, visually appealing and quietly elegant photographic memories is all I have ever really wanted to create.
Fine Art Baby Photography in Calgary Fused with Fine Art Lifestyle Imagery
I remember when I was finishing up my social work degree, I had to decide if I was going to begin my Master’s of Social Work program at the University of Calgary or if I was going to work and start my career. The idea of going directly into a graduate program was a very appealing idea – it felt like skipping a lot of extra fuss by just learning some theory and framework. As it turned out though, the lure of starting to pay off my student loans was more appealing by the application deadline, and I decided to take a year or two to learn my craft. While I won’t bore you with my journey of the many social work roads I walked down, I will tell you this. Those few years became a more significant teacher of my profession than any class I could have taken. The experience turned out to be everything.
The branding of Suzanne Taylor Photography has been very similar over the past ten years, and when you look back on my Baby Photography in Calgary images from several years ago, you would see a noticeable difference in what I looked for to capture – yet you would see many similarities. I believe that over time when you practice something – it isn’t about learning it fresh, it is about the constant refinement of the craft. I tried for years to emulate what I saw other photographers doing and it never felt right. I hauled around huge backdrops and spent hours upon hours creating images that were beautiful, but were not fulfilling. I still look lovingly at images created by extremely talented baby and newborn photographers and respect and appreciate them and all it takes to create them. There is a lot of space in this world for all kinds of baby and newborn photography – what I create is what is perfect for me.
About a year ago, I decided to leave some of the baggage behind. I stopped bringing my giant backdrops on account that 99.9% of my customers have a wall we can shoot against and allowed myself to create images that were uniquely my own. Part of that was to start taking family photos in more of a lifestyle genre. This allowed me to capture the family being a family – learning all about their new addition(s) and sharing those precious moments together.
All of these pictures convey so much love, fun and gratitude – and really what more could you ask to be the final product out of your photography session to celebrate the birth of your child? We live in such an amazing time in the history of man – we can capture the joy and have it to look back on whenever we feel like it. My goal is to leave you with not just pictures – I want to leave you with a visual story of our time together. Who you all are, what you are feeling, what makes you smile and what makes some cry. What makes you love and what keeps you together as a family are the most important aspects of Fine Art Baby Photography in Calgary.
