Bentley Photographer Captures Backyard Wedding
If you remember a few months ago I posted a blog post commenting about how I was no longer planning to shoot weddings. The wedding business is a hard one as a photographer. While I love photographing weddings, often I found myself working for about 1/3 to 1/4 of what I normally charge for about 1/2 the work. Wedding Photography is very time consuming and I made a professional decision to pull back from that industry and focus on portrait and fine art creative photography with children and families.
This spring, however, I was given the opportunity by a wonderful couple in Bentley, Alberta to photograph their special day in the comfort of their backyard. I had to think long and hard about how this would fit into my current business plan and model and decided that if I was going to begin shooting weddings again, it had to be on my terms and in a way that reflected both my style and my Bentley, Alberta based business.
Wedding Photography in the Style of Bentley Photographer Suzanne Taylor Photography
How I decided to make wedding photography work again was doing away with the large and more ‘fussy’ packages that I used to offer. I used to offer beautiful packages that included hours of shooting, fully edited images and often wall art and/or albums. Weddings would consume my summer as they were often 6-12 hour commitments as well as the typical 10-20 hours of post production editing and ordering – let alone packaging and delivering of the beautiful event.
In short – that has all been scrapped.
Bentley Photographer Suzanne Taylor Photography now offers a very low key, intimate and relaxed approach to weddings – much like a Backyard Wedding would entail. Bentley Photographer Suzanne Taylor Photographer now offers weddings in between 1-3 hour time spans with a specific number of images selected and edited in the preference of myself, both in color and hand edited black and white photography to be delivered digitally to the customer. The option to add on products like wall art and albums will always exist, but creating wedding packages like this opens up Suzanne Taylor Photography to more of a causal event that is enjoyed by everyone.
A Pure Focus on the Emotions
The style that Bentley Photographer, Suzanne Taylor Photography has been gravitating towards over the last two years is a fusion of both documentary and fine art. This focuses the emotive quality of documentary photography with many opportunities to capture moments and images that reflect the passion of fine art. My goal with all weddings from 2017 and forward is to focus on the moments that we want to remember and the subjects that create that moment. I was recently told that a wedding I had shot was not to standard as I had ‘cut off heads’ – and that is OK when you are making sure that you capture the perfect moment where a couple is holding hands, caressing each other or your just focusing on a detail – like a corsage or boutonniere. A face is not always important to convey a feeling or to bridge one part of a story to another. Documentary photography tells a story and that is what Bentley Photographer Suzanne Taylor Photography aims to create – a perfect time line of your day with all the beautiful details and emotions captured through it.
If you are interested in booking a Backyard Wedding with Suzanne Taylor Photography, please keep in mind you don’t need to only shoot in a backyard – you can book your wedding wherever you like. This Bentley photographer just wants to do the best job she can and leave you with a wonderful experience that you will soon not forget.
Warmly,
Suzanne
