Calgary Family Photography

Tonight has been no different than so many other nights of my life as of late while thinking about Calgary Family Photography.  We had a beautiful weekend together as my family shares me with my passion of photography for about 9 out of 12 months every weekend.  We spent it together and enjoying each other – my husband and I wrangling our four beautiful children together, yesterday at the Lego Batman Movie (which was awesome by the way) and today swimming and relaxing in the afternoon together at home.  This evening, however, I am watching the Grammy’s and just finished watching the Beyonce performance and a word hit home that really struck a chord with me while I watched it.  It is also a word that a fellow photographer used to describe my work this afternoon on Instagram – Unconventional.

What a lot of people may not know is that both my husband and I were both born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and for us that has always been home.  We both lived in Calgary until our early 20’s when we finished University and then moved to Athabasca until we settled in Central Alberta near Red Deer where we live now – a few years later.

Why bring up this small tidbit of nostalgia?  One simple reason actually – Calgary Family Photography makes up around 70% of my yearly customer base.  I find myself in Calgary at least every second weekend through the summer as I help customers fulfill their photography desires by capturing family sessions, newborn sessions and my very favorite – Creative Child Portrait sessions.

Bringing the Unconventional to a Conventional Genre

I have always been drawn to unique art.  I remember when I was a young girl in art classes every Friday night how I would spend a ton of time staring at the beautiful images that would later influence my take on photography and the desire to create something more than just an image.

To create an image for someone – whether it be for myself or my family or a customer who has entrusted me with creating family memories into art is a task that I accept with an open mind and heart.  Calgary Family Photography is such an important medium that passes all too fast (if you ever read my blog I write about this topic often).  Today will never again be today and children will never be this old again – today is done as of midnight never to return again.

I like to personally think of the word Unconventional as just a different way of seeing something.  Seeing something in a unique way.  Seeing something in a way few people do and creating art that showcases emotion, beauty, love and moments rolled together.  Anything that creates and peaks some interest in your viewer is well worth the effort.
