Suzanne Taylor Photography & The Town of Bentley Annual Santa Breakfast
At the beginning of December 2017, I was honoured to be allowed to come into the Annual Santa Breakfast in Bentley, Alberta and photograph all of the beautiful children who were SO EXCITED and amazed to see Santa!!! Capturing Santa pictures is one of my favourite things to do with Suzanne Taylor Photography, and the joy on the faces of the kids reinforced the importance of this small act of giving back to the community we have lived in for the last seven years.
A Little About Jocelyn from an Outsider
As you can tell from my blog, posts and general info – we are not from Bentley. My husband James and I were born and raised in Calgary, AB and came to live here in 2010 just before our oldest, Jacob was born. We settled in the Town of Bentley mainly because of proximity to work, but I remember falling in love with the Town when I first started looking for a place for us to move to as we needed to quick because I was so pregnant (we finished moving at 37 weeks gestation…lol).
Anyway – we remained fairly isolated as Jakie was just a baby, most of our support systems were still in Calgary, and I returned to work when Jakie was 11 months old because it was time and before we knew it, he was starting school at the playschool in Bentley Elementry. Then all of a sudden we seemed to have our triplets, and the isolation began all over again.
Why would I share all of this info with you? Because of Jocelyn.
I didn’t know Jocelyn very well – I will firmly admit that. In fact, my friend request still goes unanswered on Facebook which sadly will never be answered now. I requested her friendship I would think at the time she fell ill and didn’t even know she was sick until I found out she had passed away. It came as a terrible shock to the whole community that such a beautiful and warm young lady was gone, but it hit me extra hard, and this is why…
I never really got the chance to get to know one of the kindest people I had ever met in the Town of Bentley. There was NEVER a day that I came to pick Jakie up from school – between Playschool and Grade 1 that she did not great me with a smile. There were days I was covered in baby puke, poop (gross but likely a fact), food, and gosh knows what else – and she always smiled and said hello. She never really knew how kind that was to me and getting to know about her through other members in the Town of Bentley, it sounds like that was just her. To a chronically overwhelmed mother who was struggling in ways so many people didn’t notice or didn’t want to admit – her warm smile, twinkling eyes and kind nature was always something to look forward to.
That is why Suzanne Taylor Photography wants to donate all the profit from the Santa picture sales to the Jocelyn Snow Memorial Playground. A playground built by the community to remember one of the brightest and kindest people I have ever met here. It is a playground that will be created by the residents of Bentley for the children of Bentley – the kids that Jocelyn would have loved the very most.
