A Perfect Picture of Motherhood
At the Spring 2017 Rock Your Bump show in Red Deer, Alberta I had the opportunity to photograph a number of beautiful Mother’s and Children who were ready to be captured as Fine Art. This Perfect Motherhood session featured today on the Suzanne Taylor Photography blog was such an inspiring session for me. A beautiful mother and perfect newborn to be photographed together. Looking at these pictures though you may be wondering why you can only see just a smidge of her gorgeous newborn – because so many pictures we are flooded with on social media has our children always front and center.
Having the newborn/baby/child front and center for the Picture of Motherhood photography sessions at Rock Your Bump spring 2017 show was never the intention for these particular sessions. These Motherhood sessions were exactly that – a brief moment in time where the very notion of Motherhood was captured. A rare image of a Mother being front and stage in a photograph and not just a smile in the background, or the person operating the camera.
What do you visualize when you think of Motherhood?
I consider myself extremely fortunate that I have had a Mother for the whole 36 years I have been alive. I have many friends that can not say that and know that they would trade many things in their lives to have their Mom’s back for just a few moments. To spend a few moments with the women who not only gave you life but loved you through all of their faults and mistakes – and never gave up on you. don’t celebrate women nearly as much as we do prior to them having a child.
In our society, we don’t celebrate women nearly as much as we do prior to them having a child. After having four children I can say first hand that if smartphones didn’t exist I would likely have very few pictures of myself with my kids. Where ever we go the children always take center stage and I blend into the background. This doesn’t bother me in the slightest but reinforces the background ‘position’ that Mother’s fall into once they have children. Your children become front and center and unless you take the care to ensure your images are captured, the memories of your smile, devotion, and love will be lost to the background of their lives.
The Picture of Motherhood Photography sessions that Suzanne Taylor Photography offers near Red Deer, Alberta is an opportunity for Mom to get that image that represents how she feels about her children. These Motherhood images are created to capture not only a moment in time but also a feeling that can never be confused when you see a mother and her child together. An image like this becomes something unforgettable to a Mother – but what about the child she is pictured with?
Those Moments with Mom
Photographs are one of the few things that exist in our world that become more valuable each day that goes by. The sad truth of life is that all of us will age and as we watch our children grow, that responsibility of Motherhood becomes more and more valuable to the people that will miss us the most. No Mother lives forever and the opportunity to record and preserve a moment of true unbridled love in Fine Art is an opportunity that will become an heirloom for generations as families grow on and old together.
