The Photographic Vision | Suzanne Taylor Photography

This Red Deer & Calgary Photographer spent the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 recovering still from Fall 2017 mini sessions that took place between the Calgary and Red Deer area.  Suzanne Taylor Photography was booked to capacity, and it wore me out – 100%.  By the time Christmas came and went, I was finally able to relax for a couple of weeks while my husband had holidays and I got the chance to decompress.  It felt great, and now that 2018 has begun with a few shoots already fit into this month and a whole lot of work coming up in February and March, I thought it was a great time to FINALLY start my blog for the 2018 year.  I think the last blog post I made was at the beginning of December, so I am well overdue before Google forgets Suzanne Taylor Photography when customers search Family Photographer in Calgary and Red Deer.

Photographic Vision & Suzanne Taylor Photography

Photographic vision is a concept that has influenced the style of Suzanne Taylor Photography since day one.  I like to think that the idea of photographic vision is the general mood, style and direction that you want to take your photographic work in.  My customer’s photographic work is often exquisite, clean and emotionally beautiful.  I always want to capture your family photography in a way that shows the delicate relationships between the people in the picture.  There often isn’t a lot of room to wiggle creatively into sessions – so I tend to leave the more abstract ideas that pop into my head for my personal photography projects.  These projects are vital to drive the creative factor and keep the photography that Suzanne Taylor Photography creates for the customer fresh, unique and technically sound.

Color Vs. Black and White Photographic Vision

I love colour and black and white photography.  To customise the colour of an image can create a fantastic display of mood, emotion and can direct a lot of thinking and processing about a single image.  When you strip a picture of its colour, however, you all of a sudden have an entirely new photographic story – devoid of distractions and all eyes directly on what was captured.  You no longer get to process tones, hues and saturation of colour – instead, you start to notice shadows, light and how balanced the photograph is (even if you don’t think you do).  You pay more attention to the eyes, to the expression and try to understand what the photo is about.   Take these two photos and think about the difference in how you view each one…

I would love to know which image you prefer and why if you want to drop your answer down in the comments.

As an Alberta photographer who specialises in family photography and fine art photography (newborn – child – family), how I decide to process your images (depending on the direction we are going in during your consult with Suzanne Taylor Photography when you book your photography session) can rely on a lot of factors.  What it will always have though is a photographic vision that is created with you (my customer) in mind and direction.  I always let photographic sessions evolve naturally and direct children especially as little as possible – but a theme, wardrobe and props are never left as just an ‘idea’.  If you set the stage correctly, the photos will always be something to remember.

Warmly,
Suzie
